CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, October 2, 2020 – As prelude to the main event on October 5, the pre-opening of classes kicks off today in all the 14 divisions in Region X.
The simultaneous event is primarily aimed at strengthening the public’s awareness of the opening of the School Year 2020-2021 on October 5 and informing the field of the Department’s readiness and its continuous efforts to ensure the continuity of education amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.
In an interview with Regional Office X Director Arturo B. Bayocot, he said that the event highlights the collaboration of the Department with the teachers, parents, partners from both government and nongovernment agencies, media, and other stakeholders.
“We have prepared our Basic Education Learning Continuity Plans (BE LCPs) to address our educational needs under the ‘New Learning landscape.’ Thanks to our partners for generously helping us in implementing all our LCPs in the Region,” he added.
Bayocot further said that the teachers have selflessly and courageously offered their services even to the seemingly unreached, financially challenged, and those under difficult circumstances.
“We continue to explore and exhaust all other possibilities to ensure that in the delivery of quality education in these times of education emergencies, no one will be left behind,” he concluded.
Alongside the pre-opening of classes is the pre-celebration of the World Teachers’ Day, which also takes place on October 5.
In one of the Region’s management committee meetings in preparation for the October 5 celebrations, Bayocot said that the teachers should be recognized not only during the annual celebration of the National Teachers’ Month (NTM), but every day of their lives.
“They not only develop globally minded citizens, but also nurture families, strengthen communities, and build the nation at large,” he added.
Bayocot then challenged everyone present to honor the teachers, pray for them, emulate them, and help them in lighting the way for others and building a better world for the children and the generations to come.
Gracing today’s simultaneous celebrations is the Honorable Secretary Leonor Magtolis Briones, together with all the undersecretaries.
In various occasions, the Secretary has been advocating for education to continue even in times of crisis whether it may be a calamity, disaster, emergency, quarantine, or even war.
Another highlight of the celebrations is the presence of local officials and partners from nongovernment organizations and other stakeholders who will also feature their support programs for the Department.
Adding color to the celebrations are virtual performances from the learners, teachers, and other guests.
Airing via the Region’s Facebook pages at Department of Education Region 10 and DepEd Tayo Region X – Northern Mindanao and also covered by the different local media, these celebrations are in support of the Department’s Handang Isip, Handa Bukas campaign, which advocates Angkop na Proteksyon, Patuloy na Edukasyon, and Mabisang Aksyon as the entire nation welcomes the formal opening of School Year 2020-2021.
